The MQuiz conducted by MoMo Bangalore saw a great turnout from the quizzing community of Bengalooru. Held at the IIM Bangalore campus auditorium, 37 teams from all the top colleges and corporates of Bengalooru turned up for this battle of Mobilized Minds. A common written prelim round was followed by two entertaining on-stage finals - one for the colleges and one for corporates.

The college round witnessed a very close finish with the winner being decided through a set of tie-breaker questions - BMSCE Bangalore pipped BITS Pilani to the post. In the corporate round, it was domination all the way from the seasoned duo of Tejaswi Udupa and Mitesh Agarwal from Yahoo! and Sun, who comfortably won the quiz.

The audience had great fun too and won loads of prizes. The winners in both tracks took home Nokia 5800 Express Music phones and all finalists won prizes. The prizes were given out by Sanjay Swamy, CEO of MChek.

· Cut-off was 13 for corporate and 11 for college teams, out of a maximum of 25 questions in the prelims

When we planned to close MyDuniya, I have few options in front of me.
1. Go back to employee world, look for good job be there
2. Pursue my entrepreneur dreams.

My VOTE is always for the later one. Just give the confidence to family thought to have have few offers in the hand. It is more like half hearted attempt. To my surprise I had got six offers in a month. Two of the offers are really good.

As I decided to have own startup, I thought to employee two freshers. I had given offer to two people.

That is what 6 VS 2. Many people says "only time will tell, whether i made right choice or not". But I am very clear I made the right choice.

Now we are there full time employees at NUMO Solutions.

It is Srilakshmi and Bhaskar Reddy's House warming cermony!
The apartment is next to HAL airport run way( on the Yamalur side). Because of HAL airport the panorimic view is really good. As there is plenty of open space, there is heavy wind and fresh air. The apartment is really good.
It is got plenty of ventilation.

As the house warming cermony is at 9:45PM and the pooja took till 11:45PM. As it is very windy, it is really cold. Every one want to be in the Kitchen, not for food or cooking, beacuse of warmness.

Even with good training and strong motivation, being a successful entrepreneur is tricky. You have to live with having control and not having control at the same time. You don't know exactly where each step will take you, but you do know the general direction you're moving in. If you make a mistake, you get wet. If your calculations are wrong, you have to inch your way back to safety and find a different route. And, as you jump from rock to slippery rock, you have to like the feeling.

Please find your true calling and love your craft, the risks may outweigh the rewards. Sure, training, talent, and that

most elusive component, good timing, are essential. But they are not enough.You need to have a true passion for what you're doing.

According to one story, when God made the world, he left it a little bit incomplete. Instead of making bread God gave us wheat; instead of bricks, we have clay, and we have to bake the bricks ourselves. Why? So that we are partners in completing the act of creation. Kohinoor's Birth Place

The Koh-i-noor as related by Tavernier was found in Kollur near the River Krishna in the year 1656 A.D. during the reign of Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah. Meer Jumla who joined hands with the Mughals, presented the diamond, while still uncut, to Shah Jehan. The stone then weighed 787 carats. In 1665 the Koh-i-noor was seen by Tavernier, in Aurangzeb's treasury (Travels in India by Tavernier). During the time of Mahmood Shah (1739 AD) Nadir Shah took it to Iran.

After the death of Nadir Shah at Keleth in 1747, it was passed to his grandson Shah Rukh in Meshed. In 1751 Shah Rukh gave it as a reward to Ahmed Shah at Kabul, and later on it was passed by descent to his eldest son Shah Zaman, and then to Shah Zaman's brother Sultan Shuja.

In 1812 the families of Zaman and Shuja went to Lahore and met Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the last ruler of the Punjab and in return for some favour it was presented to Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In 1839, Ranjit Singh died and at that time the Koh-i-noor was valued at one million sterling. Punjab was annexed in 1849 by the East India Company and the diamond was taken by Lord Lawrence and presented to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. The Koh-i-noor now weighed 106 carats and finally found its place in the Imperial Regalia of Britain.

Like men and women, entrepreneur and VC are two different species, their ideas are different and their goals are different. Men think about sex, women think about gifts. Entrepreneurs think about the growth, VC think about returns. After all these differences still marriage is possible.

Like marriage brings attachment, commitment, food, caring and responsibility, VC fund also brings few things like Acceleration, etc…

Like men, entrepreneurs are always thinks about Cost, Control, and Confidentiality. VC's always think about Validations, Scale and sustainability and a great exit.

Few more points:

1. 1. Bedrock for things to work in both is communication - be upfront and clear.

2. 2. If things work its heaven. if they don't its hell. Usually both are experienced alternatively in both cases.

3. 3. At marriage vows are made and after marriage they're broken every day but marriage still survives as long as breaks are not huge. It’s just too inconvenient to divorce! Similarly revenue/profit projections are made at funding and they are hardly ever met (plus or minus) but co still survives as long as negative deviations are not huge. It’s just too inconvenient to liquidate!

PJ: VCs are worse - they want returns from entrepreneurs (who can be women as well) ..hehe

Sorry If I am biased towards any particular gender.

Joke: The VC and entrepreneur are always ready for the marriage. But the problem is VC wants decide who is bride, who is the groom.

Patience:

It's said that patience is a virtue and this certainly holds true in practice. It is even truer in this fast-paced society where rushaholics and hurry addicts are in the majority and companies seem to believe that faster is better. Although patience is sometimes mistaken for sloth, it's the patient ones who are the most effective time managers. They tend to think things through before they act and focus more on results than activity. Following are the few characteristics of patient enterprises.

1. Patient companies fully intend to accomplish all their goals but they don't expect it to happen overnight. These companies recognize that time is their ally, not their enemy, and that all goals can be accomplished, given a realistic time frame. They will not hurry to go to a VC or taking the company to public.

2. Patient enterprises are not thrown off balance by momentary delays. These enterprises utilize idle time by working on other tasks or new innovations.

3. Although patient enterprises utilize idle time and waiting time rather than get frustrated by the delay, they seldom perform two activities at the same time if both activities require their attention. So they don't do sales on a marketing platform.

4. These enterprise plan before they act. Consequently they make good decisions, wise choices and sound judgments, achieving above average results.

Persistence:

Know that persistence is the name of the game...and plan accordingly.Those entrepreneurs that meet success do so because they had the ____ to push and prod and coddle their business into existence.

They found a way to keep their business moving forward in a strategic and precisely aligned manner. If something wasn't working for them, then they changed the way it was done. They looked at their business from many angles and found a way to proactively design their business to work the way they needed it to.

Is Failure An Option? Yes It Is!

There is no word called “Failure” in the today’s entrepreneur’s dictionary. This is the state of mind of many startups I had met. Failure is not an option! That’s the battle cry of the entrepreneur. Is this is Right?

If “Failure is not an option” what happens if you fail? If I am right more than 50% new business will disappear in the first two years. I am sure this number will be very high, especially if we consider the startups that are started in spare bedroom and closed by that time next relative arrives.

So what do you do if you’ve decided that failure is not an option? Do you commit suicide when you end up among the majority of start-ups that crash? A small percentage of entrepreneurs actually take this grim avenue. I wouldn’t recommend it. I think a wise entrepreneur needs to have plenty of options, including failure.

Many of us don’t want to allow “Failure as an option” into your consciousness, fearing we may doom ourself to it. The advice many of us get from so many of the so called self improvement books is to not to allow failure word in the dictionary. Because of this many of new entrepreneurs seem to believe that reality is little more than the projection of will. Thus, if they commit to the belief that “failure is not an option,” they will not fail.

With the requisite talent already in place in the Indian IT/ITeS and Technology industry, the sight of aspiring ingenious technological start-ups on the domestic terrain certainly does not raise an eyebrow. One thing that is common among these startups is, it is the dearth of funds to kick-start the ventures.

Why Angel, Why Not VC:

Many o f these start-ups need a smaller investment size that does not fall under the purview of Venture Capitalists. 8 out of the 10 start-up’s I came across are planning raise 0.25 to 0.5 million dollars. 19 out of 20 VC’s minimum investment is more than one million dollars.

There is this dearth of angel investors in India. Many of us came VC’s in one or other conferences. It is very hard to come across an angel investor. I fell this is partly attributed to the fact that angel investing is typically done by first generation entrepreneurs. In India, first-generation entrepreneurs are as old as decade or two and it is only now that they are turning towards angel investing. If I go by this equation the number of angel investors are too less to fund the scale of innovation happening out there.

My suggestion to all the entrepreneurs who are planning to raise less than one million dollars is STOP CHASING VCS, START LOOKING FOR ANGELS. Look for the people who made money in last decade or two, especially in your start-up domain. According Mr.Srinivas Udayagiri MD Lightspeed , in India only 8 out of 1000 proposals were sanctioned VC funds last year.

We should get more successful entrepreneurs than VC to the conferences . Especially in the conferences that are focused on early startups.

Silly Saithu....1

As you know lot of kids wet in the bed. After long time my son urinated in the bed for two days continously. On the second day, when he got up, he asked me "Why you people never urinate in the bed?".

It was very tough for me to explain. I told him kids can not control the bladder. He told me, he is not a kid any more, he buys a ticket in the train. :-)

Other day when we were in the train, I told him about the necessity of ticket from five years onwards.

What is Silly Saithu?

Thi series is all about the silly questions asked by my son. These are not silly questions, but silly. He is just complete five years. Chaitu is my son's nick name. One of our close family friend from Tamilnadu calls his Saithu. I love the way he calls.

Balaning VC Funds In India

At the launch of Venture Capital Association of India Mr.TC Nair (Sebi’s Whole time member) said the market regulator was in favour of balancing investments by VC funds across different sectors.

My heart says, it is very good. I want the investments in all the sectors. Especially education, agriculture research, health etc…

My mind says, capital will flow where ever it has to flow. People will invest where they like to invest. It is very foolish to force people.

At present 90% of the VC funds are foreign funds and TAX free. If I am right most of these funds are coming through Mauritius. If required an VC fund can open another firm in Mauritius and invest in the area where they liked.

Does Your Vote Count

It really does not matter, whom you vote for, it really matters whom you votes against. It is always better to check and vote, especially in close groups. It is worse if you are voting against the leader in the group.

Hinduja Park:
In our recent apartment association meeting, we were discussing about what apartment association should bear, what it should not. The discussion became hot regarding electrical fittings, it is about individual apartment’s MCB and electrical Meters at common control panel board. Our president decided to call for a vote on this.

7 to 3 in favor of individual should bear. The three who voted against are Tapas (Our beloved association president), Gaurang (I think he is secretary, but one of the office bearer) and someone else. Within 30 seconds of vote, our president said we will discuss again and take a decision.

I am pretty sure when they discuss it again, there won't be more than 4 people. I have raised my concerns. Don't you think it is killing of democracy, especially with in 30 seconds? It clearly says your vote really doesn't count. It is like, Either you vote in favor of Govt or don't vote.

After the meeting someone asked, when is next apartment association election? I asked when the last was. May be the elections also happened like this. Kidding...

DOWN TO THE WIRE

One ball, one run to win, three wickets in hand. As the Pavan decided to bowl, Mohan decided to hit it or get out. He couldn't int the last three balls, Pavan was bowling really nicely. Mohan hit the last ball over the mid off for two runs and won the game.

Last Week:
It's been long time we were planning to play cricket in the office. We planned to play against SuperSeva or Srishti. Initially it was head count problem we were not even 11 at that time. When we were 11 people in MyDuniya we got really busy. Some how our CEO, who is very energetic player behind us for cricket. He even went and bought the Bat and ball. At last it is got kicked off last Friday. As I was on my business trip to Mumbai, I couldn't be play.

This Week:
When I heard about last week's play, I decided to play this week. As the Friday approached, our CEO Ganapathy went on a trip to DELHI. Finally we left with 8 people. We decided to play, we reached Lawrence School Play ground at 5:30pm.

We split into two teams, Sandeep and Sachin (Not Sachin Tendulkar) are two captains.
In one team Sachin, Me, Mohan and Tirumala. In another team Sandeep, Pavan, Vijay and Satya. Pavan was the hero of the last week's game. He is no doubt a good player. He bats well and bowls well too.

We decide to have six overs a side match. Sandeep won the toss and elected to bat. Sachin started of nicely. As I don't my team's strength, I decided to wait to and watch. Sandeep got all out for 13 runs. We score 15 runs for 1 wicket in 3 overs.We played one more match after that, there is nothing great to write about it.

As the school's play ground is hardly 50 mts, why to wait for Friday, Why not every day in the evening for 30 mts from 6:00 to 6:30pm.

Better Half B'Day

It was my better half B'day yesterday. Initially I have not planned anything special, as my brother in law came the night before, we decided to have cake cutting at night 12'o clock. We even planned to make it as surprise. The surprise thing got spoiled, as my wife saw us bringing the cake.

Laxmi is from rural place, she is not much interested in Cake cutting. She said no for 12'o clock cake cutting, because it will disturb our son's sleeping. He has getup early for his school, she has get up early for to see us off.

In the morning my son got up, as he saw the CAKE in the fridge, he came to know about his MOM's b'day. He insisted for cake cutting in the morning. He led from the front, from setting up the table to arranging candle and knife.

This is my firs cake cutting experience early in the morning. It was really good.

Bottoms Up! Get Set Go

It was end of first day Barcamp Bangalore 6. As usual we have planned to have get together. Majoriry of us(Including Me) suggested to hang around in Mapunity office and have food and drinks. Jayanh and Navjoth are very clear they want to go to LOR (Legends of Rock) in kormangala. As usual after few minutes of debate and we decided to go to LOR.

The place is booked and music is on. The party started of slowly. As music moved from slow rock to metal, we also moved to sipping the beer to bottoms up. First Round all six of us finished with a style. As I am not regular bottoms up guy I cam last. At the moment one thing I decided, I may lose the battle, I am going to win the war.

Round number 3, 4, 5, 6 I was keep coming last but people started dropping off. At 7 almost every one dropped off, but one or other started giving me the company. Finally after 9 rounds completing near to 35 L of beer we decided to call it off. Yes it is 35 Liters of beer among 10 drinkers. The kitchen is closed, no food. As many of us are in no mood(not in a position to chew) for food decided to move towards homes, but We five(Amit, Aditya, Netra, Shourya and Me) decided to move to Empire in Koramangala for food.

The Fun Starts Now:

We five planned to go in three cars. Aditya was suppose pick Amit, which he forgot, poor Amit slept with out food. As we having dinner, we broke three glasses; You may call it 35L Beer effect. As we are having food proposed for long drive to Mysore. The story continues…

Thalassemia

Today I went to Indira Gandhi Children Hospital to donate blood. The blood was for Master Subramani who is 6 years old. Subramani parents are small time flower vendors. He got a very cute smile. His hands are very soft. I came to know Master Selvamani suffering from Thalassemia. I got terrified when I heard the little fellow required blood transfusion every 3 weeks.

The lab assistant Srinivas had given me few details about the decease. Srinivas had put me to Dr.Pradeep who is pathologist. Please watch the short conversion.

Thalassemia Major is a genetic, blood disorder which affects more than 1 lakh children in the country. Children suffering from this disorder cannot produce haemoglobin, which carries the oxygen, that we breathe in, to the various parts of the body. These children are born with the disorder, and will survive only if given regular blood transfusions. And, the transfusions need to be given every 15 days on an average, throughout their lives.

Repeated blood transfusions result in an undesirable build up of iron in the body, which can be fatal. The child has to take an injection everyday to dispose off the excess iron. This injection is given by a special infusion pump, over a period of 8 to 10 hrs, everyday. In most cases the injection is switched on before the child goes to sleep and detached the next morning. An oral drug has been developed for iron disposal which can replace the injection. This drug is relatively affordable. But the drug does not work with some children.

The family goes through lot of pain, they have to check for the blood donor every 3 weeks. I think I should help this kid as much as possible. Towards it I found the next donor for Master Subramani. I am looking for the people from Bangalore with A+ blood group. It is only matter of finding and 6 more people and scheduling.

Do we have any technical solution to help these people?

I think yes. It is matter of connection Donor and Seekers.

There will be a registration page for donors.

· Name, Email, Mobile Number, Land Line number and Blood group information will be collected.

· Last blood donation date.

We will assign 10 donors for each patient.

Each person can give blood only once in 6 month.

The system will send the e-mail and SMS to next two donors.

It will inform before three days, Two days On that day and two hours.

Donors can send and update their availability by SMS.

Where is the Hands Free?

The rules says don't use mobile phone while driving. Today I got scared when BMTC Volvo bus driver start using his mobile while driving the bus in the heavy traffic at Marathalli Bridge. He is not bothered about traffic or safety of the people. He wants people to board the bus quickly so that he can continue his talk. I think he should get punished. This is happened on 333P Volvo. I had captured it on my mobile, I will post it tomorrow. Any one want to take this up with higher ups please do.

"Do you use mobile while driving?" This is the question I asked my friends. Interestingly many of them use mobile while driving. Many of them use mobile as stress buster while driving. Same time very few of them used Hands-free.

Please avoid using mobile while driving. Please use Hands-free, if you can not avoid using mobile while driving. It is really adding to chaos of the traffic. Please do your bit today. Make bangalore a better place.

BMTC One Man Service Boon or Bane

Bangalore MTC one man service is the dangerous service on the earth.

One man service is the one where there is no conductor. The driver only issues the tickets. This service is a boon for BMTC. They make a good margin with this service. They make this margin at public cost.

I always avoid OMS buses. These are biggest bottleneck for Bangalore Traffic. The bus will take 20 to 30 minutes more time than regular bus. It means it is added extra burden to the Bangalore traffic. The bus will stop in each bus stand for more time. Driver has issue the tickets, he has answer the queries. Many time driver issue the ticket while driving. Some time his both hands will be off from the steering. It is very dangerous for the public.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is one of the very few profit making public transport corporations. They implement and adapt new technologies and new policies. It is high time they should review there One man service policy.

Wi-Fi In Apartment Associations

I am staying in an apartment in a suburb of eastern Bangalore. My apartment association called Hinduja Park. (Don’t get carried away by the name- It has nothing to do with Ashok LeyLand Hinduja). We have 100 apartments in our association. Near to 80% of the people uses internet at home. Every one is using there individual net connection from Airtel or BSNL for the internet. Each one is paying around 300 to 400 per month.

This is same across many apartment associations. Here is my proposal, How about taking one single high bandwidth connection and share with every one. This way each one can save around Rs 250-300 per month. I just checked with a Telco, sharing of bandwidth internal there is no restriction.

I think 1MBPS unlimited connection with a DHCP router will do the job.

I am planning to do a wi-fi mushup and implement this. Testing is already on..

Money saved is money earned.

Protective Father

Nowadays it was raining regularly in Bangalore. Thought it was April first week, it is like monsoon time. I was forced to stay at home; luckily(Y I Feel luckly.let U know later) there was no power also. Suddenly felt like getting drenched. I thought to go out and play in the rain. I proposed the same to my son. My four year old son jumped about the idea. We all set to go and play in the rain.

Suddenly, cold virus bug hit me, I asked my son to cover his head with plastic followed by swimming cap. He is not ready for the both. We had a heated argument. I was trying to explain all sorts of things to him, but my son is very clear. Finally I convinced him about the plastic cover. By that time we settled for plastic to cover our heads, rain gods said bye bye. We decided to play the rain water on the terrace. We played for 30 minutes.

I got present to one thing; I loved playing in the rain. In my childhood many times I got the beatings from my Granny, especially when my books got wet. I always loved playing in the rain with out covering the heads

Why is that I was asking my son to cover his head? Am I too protective? Next time I will allow him to play in the rain with out covering the head.

I already have two blogs, “Ideas Unlimited”, “Marathalli”. I thought to create one more for long time to write the daily/General updates. What a day to start this blog? Today is Ugadi. Ugadi came from Yuga and Adi. Yuga means Era, Adi means beginning, Ugadi means beginning of an era. As of now I have lot of ideas for this blog.

I am planning to write daily updates of my life, my feeling, my critics and my opinions on various issues that matters to the humans.
